Song teaches me to be in my body and listen to my heart. These poems remind me to encounter my self. I feel moved to share this beauty, through a simple home recording of a song, along with its words and translation.

Drawn from the folk oral traditions of Kabir and other Bhakti poets, I discovered these songs as part of my work with the Kabir Project. We are currently building a city of songs called ‘Ajab Shahar’, where you will find videos of these songs, sung by the folk singers themselves.

These songs are offered here with deep gratitude to Shabnam, and all the singers – Mahesha Ram, Parvathy Baul, Prahlad Tipanya, Kaluram Bamaniya, Mooralala Marwada, Mukhtiyar Ali, and many others – who continue to share and spread this music and wisdom generously.
